The Seaman – Award-Winning Short Film | Cork 48-Hour Film Challenge 2025

The Seaman is a bold and surreal short film created in just two days during the Cork 48-Hour Film Challenge 2025. Directed by Lakshika Serasinhe, the film went on to win Best Film and Best Editing, and will premiere at IndieCork Festival 2025.

Written by Emmet Byrne and Breifne O’Rourke, the story stars Emmet Byrne as The Sailor and Aoife Kelly as The Mad Scientist, in a twisted tale that defies convention.

Shot by Eleni Kalantzi, the film's unique visual style heightened the surreal tone of the narrative. It was produced by Lakshika Serasinhe and Shane Groake, with editing by Max Baronin, whose work earned the Best Editing award.

Conceived, shot, and completed in just 48 hours, The Seaman is a true testament to fast-paced filmmaking, collaboration, and creative freedom.
